E.ON Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS) operates more than 6000 assets and 5000 kilometers of heating and cooling networks across Europe.  Each year EIS starts and completes, hundreds of complex construction and engineering projects across Europe.  In all of these activities, HSSE is our overriding priority and EIS is committed to the highest standards of health, safety, security, and environmental stewardship.  To support us, we are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced HSSE Manager to join our team and contribute to the continued excellence of our HSSE practices.  This role is a critical role for EIS, and will have a core focus on driving and sharing HSSE best practice in Germany and internationally, as well as driving forward the global HSSE agenda for the EIS segment within E.ON.   

 

Job Summary:

The HSSE Manager plays a pivotal role in promoting and ensuring a culture of safety, security, and environmental responsibility within the EIS organization.  The role will have several elements, (1) driving and coordinating the HSSE agenda of the EIS Global Director and Global Board, (2) supporting the EIS businesses in Germany as a central coordinator managing HSSE governance and reporting (3) taking a lead role in developing the HSSE best practice across the EIS international businesses, developing and promoting HSSE excellence across EIS. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • General HSSE Program Development: Working closely with the E.ON EIS and E.ON SE HSSE teams, support in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSSE programs, policies, and procedures in meeting E.ON requirements, legal regulations, and international best practices.  Ensure that clear and consistent HSSE reporting takes place for the EIS segment, interfacing across units.
  • HSSE Inspections and Audits:  Working closely with the EIS businesses teams, develop and share best practice in respect of safety audits, root cause analyses, security assessments, and environmental reviews to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions – ensure that learnings from Audits and Inspections are shared across EIS.
  • Incident Investigation support: working closely with the responsible HSSE managers in the EIS businesses, work to develop and improve systems as regards the Investigation of health, safety, security, and environmental incidents – including accidents, near-misses, and environmental violations, and support the development of action plans for prevention and improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: As an expert in all relevant German and EU regulations pertaining to health, safety, security, and environmental standards, provide guidance on compliance matters to HSSE teams – and support them in developing the processes and systems necessary to become best-in-class.
  • Training and Awareness: Support in developing and delivering HSSE training programs, supplemental to local and group trainings, with particular focus on EIS relevant HSSE matters – for example, contractors, working at height etc.
  • Emergency Preparedness:  drive collaboration across the EIS businesses with relevant departments to develop and maintain emergency response plans, conduct drills and equipment.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze HSSE data and trends for the EIS businesses, preparing reports, and presenting findings to EIS management, as well as the tracking of implementation and remediation measures.
  • Security Management: Assist in the development and implementation of security measures to protect company assets, information, and personnel.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Promote and support the implementation of sustainable practices to minimize the company's environmental footprint and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • HSSE Committee Participation:  represent EIS in various HSSE forums, both within EIS and the broader E.ON group, and collaborating with cross-functional, cross-group teams to enhance HSSE performance.

Qualifications:

  • Completed vocational training with a specialization in health, safety and environment, or Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Security Management, or comparable experience (preferred).
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), “Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit” (SiFa) or similar HSSE certifications are advantageous.
  • Proven experience in HSSE coordination or a related role, with knowledge of German HSSE regulations and standards.
  • Strong understanding of environmental management systems (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety standards (ISO 45001). NEBOSH or OSHAS experience are advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fluent German language skills. English is a plus.
