We are recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join E.ON Infrastructure Services (EIS), this role has a primary focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), while operating as part of a broader portfolio of integrated energy solutions for Industrial and Commercial customers. Working alongside technologies such as solar PV, CHP and advanced energy management solutions, the role is central to designing, validating and delivering BESS-led projects that maximise customer value and support their transition to Net Zero.

You’ll be part of a joined-up team that drives innovative, low-carbon solutions and positions E.ON as a trusted partner for customers on their decarbonisation journey.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the detailed design and engineering development of BESS projects, ensuring solutions are robust, compliant and aligned with commercial and grid requirements.
- Developing complete electrical system designs, including power conversion, protection coordination, interconnection schemes and control interfaces across LV and HV networks.
- Producing, reviewing and approving technical documentation such as single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts and equipment arrangements.
- Assessing and selecting appropriate energy storage solutions, considering system behaviour across different operating and load scenarios.
- Supporting grid compliance activities, including preparation of G99/G100 submissions and coordination with OEMs, DNOs/IDNOs, ICPs and other project stakeholders.
- Preparing technical specifications and procurement documentation, reviewing supplier proposals and supporting bid evaluations alongside Commercial and Supply Chain teams.
- Identifying and managing technical risks, including electrical safety, thermal performance, fire protection, failure modes and regulatory compliance.
- Working collaboratively with construction, commissioning and delivery teams, providing engineering assurance and supporting testing, handover and energisation.
What we need from you
- Strong grounding in power systems, BESS technology and distributed energy integration, ideally gained within renewable energy, industrial power, grid services, or utilities environments.
- Competent with electrical design tools – AutoCAD, Trimble ProDesign, MATLAB, PowerFactory, ETAP, or similar power systems modelling software.
- Evidence of delivering end-to-end engineering design packages for LV and HV systems, including cable sizing, fault level assessment, protection coordination, power quality, and interface design.
- Confident communicator able to liaise effectively with clients, manufacturers, network operators, project managers, and site teams, translating design intent into build-ready documentation.
- Experience of engineering governance and CDM, Building Regulations, Design Risk Assessments, HAZOP/HAZID, DSEAR or equivalent design assurance processes.
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (BEng/BSc, MEng/MSc).
