Job Purpose

Manage the safe and economic delivery of operational associated with our “New Business”  workstream within Lighting and Grid, across multiple depots within the North region. The work activity spans various size street lighting projects and domestic connections working with multiple clients, and a team comprising of Operational Supervisors, Commercial Engineers, Administrators and field based operatives, both Direct Labour & Sub – Contractors.

 

To engage with the New Business Contracts Manager and  align to the North regions strategic and sustainable growth plan.

 

The safe, effective and efficient delivery of the works is a key focus of this role. 

 

Main Responsibilities of the role

  • Ensuring all Operational activity is managed and executed in a safe manner meeting the company’s  time, cost and quality objectives. Ensure all activity meets internal and external environmental legislation & standards
  • Manage the supervisory and operational staff. Performance management and disciplinary issues of all direct reports. Monitor and Improve performance (if applicable) using the  performance management process ensuring objectives and behaviours are set, reviewed and signed off accordingly.
  • Manage the operational performance of the North Region New Business to maximise efficiencies and deliver operational and financial targets.
  • To understand and implement all potential operational synergies between depots within the North Region New Business Department
  • To develop and maintain key customer relationships (Existing & New)
  • To develop and promote a culture of commitment to well being, lead by example
  • Ensure employee attendance is managed in line with the established procedures
  • Support the development and training plans process to meet the requirement of the business
  • Full accountability & responsibility for the effective management of the Operational aspects of the North Region New Business workstream.
  • Develop a regional works programme for all activities matching resource capacity to volumes, to optimise resources, increase performance and drive productivity.
  • Full responsibility for all controllable costs and spend within Operations for the North Region New Business workstream.

What we need from you

  • Proven ability to simultaneously manage a number of operational teams covering diverse activities.
  • An understanding of the electrical engineering, technical and operational requirements relevant to the  activity.
  • A strong track record of delivery of Operational performance targets, including finance, customer service.
  • Personal drive and the ability to motivate others.
  • An understanding of management accounting and demonstrate ability to forecast, manage and monitor the team budget, including identification of opportunities to deliver increased value and/or make budget savings.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of relevant health and safety responsibilities with a detailed knowledge of Utility site safety procedures and ideally have a recognised safety qualification e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH.
  • Lead, motivate and manage the Operational team to meet requirements and manage performance that inspires excellence in terms of customer and commercial focus and innovative solutions. 
  • Provide support to team members in line with HR policy and procedures.
  • Manage team and individual development through effective performance management including objective setting, regular feedback and review.
  • Manage people processes ensuring effective use of information channels such as HR.Online and compliance with policy, contractual agreements and defined processes.
  • Manage, monitor and improve (if applicable) attendance in line with agreed targets.
  • Must have a full valid driving licence.
