Here's what you'll be doing
We are looking for a Gas Volume Forecasting Manager to join our dynamic Volume Forecasting team, where you'll be responsible for collaborating with various business units to produce accurate long-term gas volume forecasts for purchasing. Our team also manages short-term forecasts, ensuring precision as we approach delivery. With a strong commercial focus and close ties to forecasting teams across other E.ON regions, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a critical area of the business that drives results and shapes our energy strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of analysts forecasting gas demand for the UK retail business, including City Energy, CHP, and biomass across trading periods.
- Oversee the I&C lead with cross-team responsibility for power and gas I&C forecasts.
- Lead the development of gas volume forecasting techniques, processes, and systems for Energy Economics.
- Provide leadership and development to the forecasting team, delivering forecasts to other Energy Economic teams, finance, and the business.
- Lead cross-team processes for mass market and I&C, representing Volume Forecasting in key forums.
- Drive the transformation of gas forecasting processes to meet evolving business needs, particularly in flexibility.
- Apply mathematical, statistical, and industry expertise to improve forecasting methods.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders to set targets and communicate risks in the UK’s retail gas portfolio.
- Establish the team as a centre of excellence in forecasting.
- Offer consultancy on regulatory and industry changes related to settlements and volume forecasting.
- Participate in industry expert groups.
- Lead projects to ensure the team adapts to the changing needs of E.ON UK.
- Work with other forecasting teams to ensure consistency and provide gas expertise.
- Reduce energy costs by minimising gas imbalance charges through improved forecasting.
- Lead the analysis and management of industry change proposals.
- Oversee major projects, including designing and managing system replacements.
What we need from you
Essential
- Graduate with significant experience in an analytical & commercial environment.
- Excellent analytical & numerical skills, including risk analysis.
- Able to undertake highly complex, multi-dimensional analysis.
- An energy industry background with a deep understanding of the forecasting processes.
- Knowledge of the settlement process.
- Proven management experience to lead, coach and motivate a team and to influence people to achieve results.
- Strong commercial analysis skills, being able to structure problems and gather relevant data to generate options and recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with people from all levels and parts of the organisation.
- Ability to plan, determine priorities and deliver highly operational accountabilities.
Desirable
- A good degree in a numerate discipline
- Project management leadership experience, being able to direct multiple resources to work together on complex tasks to tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of both energy trading and retail environments, with a clear understanding of the energy value chain.
