Sales Trader

Here's what you'll be doing

The Flex Optimisation team provide an essential interface between the I&C business (and its customers) and the Energy Markets trading function.  We interact with our valuable Flex customer portfolio throughout the day, allowing customers to fix tranches of their contract energy requirement based on the live wholesale market. It is then vital that those volumes are made available to our Forwards Traders to transact as soon as possible.  If you would enjoy working in a fast-paced trading environment and have a passion for providing excellent levels of customer service then this could be the ideal role for you.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Manage incoming calls from our Flex customer portfolio as they seek to fix their contract volume requirements. Quote prices based on live wholesale markets, manage system entry and pass that agreed volume to our Forwards Trading team to be transacted in the market
  • Work with colleagues to ensure the Flex desk is manned at all times during operating hours
  • Use expertise to understand market conditions and liquidity and understand how to quote prices to customers accordingly
  • Partner with the Forwards Position Management team to ensure our volume positions are always understood and communicated accurately
  • Ensure the Risk Navigator platform content is always up to date for our valuable customer portfolio, providing them with the necessary insights into their portfolios
  • Manage Buy to Back volume ‘lockins’ from the business, processing them as required and ensuring the volumes are passed to the Forwards Position Management team in a timely fashion in order to manage the business’ exposure to wholesale market price risk
  • Contribute to the production of market reporting, using knowledge of the wholesale markets to produce compelling, accurate and insightful material for our customers
  • Develop effective relationships with our smaller Flex customers, helping to ensure high retention and renewal rates by offering industry leading levels of service
  • Manage ad hoc customer queries, taking ownership of any issues that may arise and resolving them on the customer’s behalf
  • Seek to continually improve processes where possible and manage operational risks
  • Maintain an in depth understanding of wholesale energy markets, providing input into the communication of significant risks and opportunities to the wider business
  • Adhere at all times to agreed governance and procedures to ensure compliance of the desk with key internal and external policies and regulation
