We're looking for a Electrical CAD Technician to join E.ON UK Network Assets Limited. This role is based at Derby with hybrid working.

Here's what you'll be doing

E.ON has established a growing Independent Connections Provider (ICP) business to deliver complex grid connections and support the UK’s transition to net zero. As part of E.ON’s wider strategy, the ICP works alongside the newly formed Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO), enabling a fully integrated “design, build, own, operate and maintain” offering—giving customers a seamless alternative to traditional multi-supplier models.

The role exists to mainly support the Technical, Operations and Legal departments of E.ON’s IDNO. The role supports the IDNO’s ability to compete in the wider market, as the role brings additional skills to serve our customers.  

Key responsibilities

  • Review as-laids and legal plan drawings as required in line with internal design policies, DNO policies and UK electrical installation regulations
  • Obtain and update red-line and as-laid drawings from site teams to maintain accurate IDNO network records
  • Update GIS systems with as-laid records from construction teams, contractors, and ICPs across LV HV EHV networks
  • Liaise with design engineers, operations teams, and legal compliance officers to resolve clashes and recommend practical design solutions
  • Take ownership of the drawing lifecycle to ensure timely and accurate project delivery
  • Act as a key link between Technical, Legal, and Operations departments
  • Use search tools and land registry searches to verify and validate third party land ownership and potential implications for IDNO assets and routes
  • Ensure health, safety, and welfare considerations are embedded into all designs review and production through effective risk management
  • Be able to conduct utilities searches to make sure our asset are not impacted by exiting utility services
  • Maintain clear communication with internal teams and external IDNO customers
  • Oversee shared mailboxes and action relevant tasks associated with design, legal and operations 

What we need from you

  • Understanding of electricity distribution network and associated equipment
  • Strong proficiency with CAD software and GIS systems.
  • Experience in supporting the design of LV and HV networks with engineer supervision
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, site surveys, and technical data into clear, compliant design outputs
  • Understanding of land rights process, including easements, wayleaves, and legal constraints affecting electricity network infrastructure
  • Highly organised with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Autodesk CAD and Microsoft Office applications,

It would be great if you had

  • Proven experience within an IDNO and ICP environment 
  • Ability to undertake Land Registry searches and advise on them
