We are looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join our team, this role has a flexible base location involving nationwide travel.

Here's what you'll be doing

Acting as the E.ON EIS UK Process Safety subject matter expert, you will develop and deliver expert Process Safety Management guidance, support, and independent challenge to all E.ON EIS UK business units (BUs). You will assure the safe and reliable specification, design, installation, commissioning, and operation of our engineering assets in line with regulatory requirements, industry good practice, and the organisation’s risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and implement E.ON EIS UK Process Safety Management strategies, policies, and procedures to enable BUs to achieve measurable Process Safety performance improvements.
  • Drive a strong Process Safety culture integral to BU daily operations, covering all stages of the asset lifecycle.
  • Select, scope, scribe, chair, and critique Process Hazard Analysis activities, or participate as a Process Safety subject matter expert.
  • Chair rigorous ALARP demonstration and Safety Case development activities, producing report documentation to the required quality and consistency.
  • Collate, develop, and deliver Process Safety Quarterly KPI update packs to senior leaders across E.ON EIS.
  • Support the quality and consistent entry of Process Safety risks into the organisation’s Risk and Opportunity Management system.
  • Monitor asset project pipelines to identify Process Safety risks and implications early in project development and asset lifecycle stages.
  • Horizon scan the legislative and regulatory landscape for changes impacting Process Safety Management, including standards, codes of practice, and industry approaches.
  • Steer Process Safety aspects, including formal training, assessment, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Enact the role of Contract Manager for Process Safety consultancy support contracts, influencing the identification and selection of consultants.

What we need from you

  • Qualified to Bachelor’s Level in either a Process Safety, Engineering or related Technical subject
  • Member or Associate Member of a Process Safety-relevant Professional Engineering Institution.
  • Significant experience and proven track record in Process Safety hazard identification, proportionate risk assessment, and mitigation measures utilising HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA methodologies.
  • Willingness to question the status quo, challenging established thinking and supporting new approaches and ideas.
  • Appreciation of the Energy Institute’s Process Safety Management framework.
  • Ability to quickly establish positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely.
  • Training, presentation, coaching, and facilitation skills.
  • Willingness to undertake regular travel within the UK.
  • Strong aptitude for computer-based work, with extensive experience using a wide range of Microsoft Office applications, including SharePoint and Teams.

    It would be great if you had
  • Masters degree in either a Process Safety, Engineering or related Technical subject
  • Professional registration with a relevant Professional Engineering Institution
  • NEBOSH Process Safety or an alternative level of HSE professional qualification.
  • Experience with WhatIf, BowTie, and Consequence Modelling.
  • Appreciation of the fundamental requirements of the DSEAR Regulations.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Energy Institute’s Process Safety Management framework.
