Salary: £58,693 - £71,634 + Excellent company benefits

Location: Home / frequent travel to Nottingham with occasional nationwide travel required 


As a Bid Manager you will play a pivotal role in the planning and execution of strategic energy partnerships with new cities, guiding complex and high-value opportunities from initial city exploration, bid management, through to contract signature. This role requires an individual with strong programme management skills and a structured approach to drive initiatives forward, while ensuring alignment with both client expectations and business goals.

Scope spans both strategic and operational levels, requiring a balance between high-level strategic alignment and detailed programme execution. Making critical decisions on resource allocation, prioritisation of workstreams, risk mitigation strategies, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring each project phase aligns with broader goals in energy transformation and partnership development. Additionally, the Programme Manager will influence programme timelines, bid-readiness actions, and cross-functional coordination, while also supporting governance structures and internal processes. Their decisions will directly impact programme outcomes, partner satisfaction, and the successful advancement of long-term energy partnerships.

  • Opportunity Management: Plan & coordinate complex, strategic client opportunities for energy partnerships from initial engagement through to contract signature. Develop and implement a structured and consistent process to facilitate smooth transitions between gate stages.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate workstreams and their interdependencies across UK Solutions (inc: City Energy Transformation Leads,  UK Solutions technical teams, Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Go to Market, M&A, Strategy, Commercial and Legal) , and other E.ON business units or 3rd party suppliers to ensure that all necessary expertise and input are applied to each stage. Act as the central point of contact for cross-functional teams, ensuring consistent communication and alignment.
  • Bid Readiness: Oversee the readiness of proposals, including research, analysis, and strategy development. Ensure all bids meet client needs, align with strategic goals, and are positioned competitively in the marketplace.
  • Strategic Partnership Development: Act as a strategic partner to cities, identifying and nurturing opportunities for partnership that align with mutual sustainability and energy goals. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to foster long-term collaborations.
  • PMO and Project Management: Support internal PMO functions and programme management activities e.g. Manage associated portals identifying future opportunities and information to build into city exploration and leverage best practices. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the programme management office. Support digitalisation initiatives to enhance the PMO capabilities.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Maintain clear and accurate records of programme milestones, status updates, and risk assessments. Provide regular reports, dashboards, communication plans to senior management on programme progress and any potential issues.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to ensure timely delivery of projects while maintaining the highest quality and standards.
  • Community Activity: Support and continuously improve the social value handbook and play a key part in the EON UK wide working group

What we need from you

  • Project and Programme Management: Proven experience managing large, complex projects and programmes, with a strong ability to delegate tasks and track progress against goals. Formal qualification in AMP / Prince 2 project management or Practitioner level in AMPM is required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Influence: Skilled in building and nurturing strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, to foster collaboration and alignment with project goals.
  • External Governance Procedures: Experience of working with councils/corporations in delivering projects/programmes/bid activities, understanding the complexities of their governance models and how to navigate these to provide successful deliverables.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Demonstrated strength in team collaboration, with the ability to coordinate resources across functions effectively, motivating others to drive project success.
  • Time Management and Organisation: Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, balancing priorities to deliver consistent outcomes.
  • Commitment to Social Value: A strong understanding of, and passion for, social value, recognising its significance in the energy transition and embedding it as a core aspect of programme delivery.
  • Effective Communication: Clear and concise communicator, both in writing and verbally, with the ability to present complex information to senior stakeholders in a compelling manner.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analysing data, identifying insights, and conveying findings through reports and dashboards. Ability to deliver clear, data-driven recommendations that inform decision-making.
  • Problem Solving and Initiative: Proactive in identifying and resolving challenges, with strong prioritisation skills to drive programme continuity and manage unforeseen issues independently.
  • Advanced MS Office Skills: Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for document creation, presentations, and data analysis.

  • Expert MS project experience
  • Experience with collaborative software such as Salesforce
  • Educated to a relevant degree level
