Cash Specialist

Here's what you'll be doing

npower Business Solutions (nBS) is the E.ON UK Industrial and Commercial (I&C) pillar and a market leader in the B2B energy retail sector.  I&C is a £6 billion revenue business serving c60,000 customers and around 300,000 meter points with a view to becoming the number one B2B energy supplier in the UK.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Cash Specialist to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis. As a key member of the Debt Collection & Risk Team, the Cash Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient cash operations, compliance, risk mitigation, and an improved customer experience within I&C. The position is based in Leeds or Solihull and offers a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days in the office per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigating, responding to, and resolving a broad range of complex queries with internal and external parties as necessary to deliver an appropriate, acceptable resolution for the customer and business.
  • Validating and challenging information where necessary and ensuring compliance to GDPR when dealing with sensitive customer information.
  • Work collaboratively across the I&C business to optimise cash collection and improve upon the existing portfolio. Applying knowledge of the strict controls when providing support and advice and mitigate risk to the business.
  • Accurately and effectively validating records and identifying system errors and proactively working to get them resolved to decrease the possibility of missed payment allocations.
  • Providing stakeholder reporting to assess the effectiveness of different payment methods, highlighting rejected payments and ensures visibility to management and impacted teams, to ensure cash recovery and track performance for all stakeholders.
  • Ensures that BACS, Netbanx & Cheques are processed within SLAs, whilst following the mandatory processes thoroughly completing checks to prevent financial inaccuracies.
  • Maintain a strong keen awareness of industry and company policies which influence local procedures, highlight local issues and suggest possible improvements to local working practices to ensure tasks are appropriately handled, right first time.
  • Accountable for daily designated workload, and ensuring duties are carried out effectively and efficiently within strict timescales by being able to prioritise and manage time accordingly.

What we need from you

  • Proficient in financial accounting and banking regulations, particularly in general ledger, BACS Card Payments, and Cheque processing.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with great attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Excel and quick adaptability to new reports and processes.
  • Focus on providing customer and operational excellence while meeting regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to provide helpful feedback with clear logical explanations to reduce rejections.
  • Building relationships with related business areas to ensure smooth cross-functional processes.
  • Proactive, with strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines and KPIs.

It would be great if you had

  • Experience in using Junifer Systems.
  • An understanding of the concept of working capital and the influences Credit Control and collection performance has.
