We're looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our City Energy Solutions (CES) team based in East London.

Here's what you'll be doing

Location: East London

Salary: £46,636-£58,937

Allowances: Standby retainer c£4,000 + London allowance of up to £3,550 PA for eligible candidates 

12 month Fixed-Term contract.

As a Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible for completing routine and emergency maintenance to the equipment within the Energy Centres which include CHP engines, boilers, pump systems, electrical and control systems.

Your duties include responding to reports of broken or faulty items, conducting routine inspections of equipment and liaising with external specialists and contractors. There will be scope for you to help plan, co-ordinate and complete maintenance activities for all mechanical, electrical, and C&I issues that impact/are likely to impact the operational performance of the District Heating and Energy Generation schemes throughout the UK and identify issues and improvements. The purpose is to reduce unplanned unavailability, keeping our customers on supply 24/7 and improve the performance of the assets while ensuring all major costs are identified early in the process to assist with business planning.  

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Operations and Maintenance Team Leaders to understand and predict maintenance issues so that all plans accommodate suitable engineering resolutions, ensuring all maintenance plans are managed via the maintenance management system.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise the day-to-day operational performance of the District Heating and Energy Generation schemes throughout the UK.
  • Analyse all faults and implement corrective action individually or through the team.
  • Identify areas to improve current plant performance and build-in optimisation for future developments.
  • To work as part of the CE Operations Team to ensure the optimised operation and maintenance of the projects.
  • Support the identification and implementation of improvements to all areas that affect plant performance.
  • Support the scheduling of maintenance activities to minimise contract labour requirements.
  • Deliver maintenance of plant to meet and exceed business KPI’s.
  • Identify plant issues, providing expert technical advice to the Maintenance Team Leader to assist in the decision-making process of plant issues.
  • Contract/contractor management, ensuring appropriate safety assessments have been completed and performance is optimised.
  • Have a good understanding of CHP engine maintenance routines and be able to diagnose faults and repair

What we need from you

  • HNC/NVQ Level 4 or equivalent with significant expertise in a specialist engineering area - C&I, Mechanical or Electrical.
  • An IOSH (Managing Safely) or equivalent qualification as a minimum, demonstrating clear knowledge of electrical and mechanical safety rules.
  • Ability to challenge processes and drive improvements in site efficiency, operational performance, and commercial outcomes.
  • The capability and willingness to achieve E.ON’s required competency levels - Competent Person, Nominated Supervisor and Senior Authorised Person (where required)
  • Contract Management skills and experience to appropriately challenge contractors on the methods, quality and standards of work providing expert advice and practical guidance.
  • Proficient in hazard identification, risk assessment and management.
  • Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial effects of plant operation and prioritise effectively to deliver against tight time constraints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to form effective working relationships with site and external staff at all levels.
  • Must hold a full UK manual driving licence and be flexible to be part of a call out rota.

It would be great if you had

  • Commercial Gas Safe Certificates including COCN1, CCN1, TPCP1, TPCP1A and CODNCO1, or equivalent.
  • Experience and knowledge of the installation, inspection and testing, maintenance of District Heating systems and all associated plant
  • Experience of working on commercial chillers and heat pumps.
  • Suitable practical experience as an SAP/AP/CP.

Here’s what you need to know

There is a London allowance of up to £3,550 PA available for eligible candidates.This is an East London based role with travel required to other sites within the area. A company van & fuel card will be provided.

The successful candidate will join a Call Out Rota 1 week in 5, with a standby retainer of circa £4,000 pa. Overtime for callouts will be paid in addition to this.
