Short Term Trading is part of the Trading & Origination function of E.ON Energy Markets. We trade gas and power in intraday, spot & prompt markets to maximise the commercial value of the portfolio, as well as monetising flexibility across both assets and customer contracts.
Here's what you will be doing
We are looking for a permanent Gas and Power Trader to join our team based in a
brand-new trading floor in Solihull, near Birmingham. We are a team of 17 friendly and commercially focussed colleagues, and this role will work as part of the 4-strong day day-ahead & prompt trading team.
In this role you will be an important part of the team responsible for looking at how to profitably trade gas and power in the market, using your expertise to analyse the market, develop strategies and execute trades across multiple market channels. We would welcome applications from graduates or recent graduates too, as we may be able to offer a development route into this role for those with limited experience.
Main Responsibilities of the role
- Trade power and gas contracts in the bilateral brokered market and on exchanges, focussing on the day ahead, weekend and prompt timeframes.
- Analyse market conditions and E.ON’s portfolio positions to drive profitable trading decisions against a clear P&L target.
- Develop, improve and support the modelling & analysis suite to improve commercial outcomes.
- Work with the wider Trading and Origination teams in other European regions to foster expertise and intelligence
- Support the monetisation of embedded flexibility within the portfolio, whether from E.ON’s or customers’ assets, including battery storage and Demand Side Response.
- Ensure scheduling and dispatch is correctly carried out.
- Support the senior traders in the development of analysis and market intelligence.
What we need from you
- Highly numerate with strong analytical skills – you should be comfortable working with and distilling data to draw insights.
- Coding ability in VBA, Python or similar.
- Understanding of and interest in traded commodity markets – their purpose and drivers.
- A commitment to continually learn and proactively improve your abilities in understanding the traded energy market.
- Flexible team-centred approach.
- Graduate calibre.
- The ability to clearly present and communicate complex information.
It would be great if you have
- Knowledge and understanding of structured commodity contracts, options and battery storage systems.
- Experience in working with specialist IT systems in a trading environment.
