Here's what you'll be doing
The Electrical Design Engineer will be part of the ICP design team, with particular emphasis on Low Voltage (LV) projects. This position entails producing a comprehensive design package for both DNO-contestable and private projects.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the design of line and underground cable circuits, substation layouts, as well as protection and control schemes.
- Generate detailed specifications for plant and equipment, which include transformers, switchgear, protection relays, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs), and auxiliary supplies.
- Conduct load flow studies, short-circuit calculations, cable sizing, earthing design in accordance with BS 7430, and protection studies.
- Prepare design submissions and manage the approval process with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), ensuring compliance with G81, G99, and other relevant ENA standards.
- Generate detailed General Arrangement (GA) drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and wiring diagrams utilising AutoCAD software.
- Employ software tools for earthing studies, and Windebut or VisNet for low voltage modelling.
- Assist project managers with tenders, cost estimates, site assessments, and revisions to design during the construction phase.
What we need from you
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or an HNC/HND with substantial relevant experience.
- Proven of experience in ICP/IDNO/DNO design with the ability to deliver innovative design solutions under stringent project timelines.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; familiarity with power system software such as VisNet Connect
- A solid understanding of IEC/BS standards and ENA Recommendations, Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) regulations, and DNO/National Grid network design standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client-facing interactions and technical report documentation.
- Capability of managing multiple concurrent projects from the tender phase through to final design approval.

- Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) membership is desirable.
