Principal Digital Solution Engineer

Here's what you'll be doing

E.ON's Industrial & Commercial (I&C) business combines npower Business Solutions and E.ON B2B, creating a £5bn revenue business serving around 60,000 customers and 300,000 meter points across the UK. As part of the Digital Technology & Change (DT&C) function, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of our digital landscape.

We're looking for a Principal Digital Solution Engineer to act as a senior technical authority within our Engineering team. This role will drive how enterprise platforms, cloud services, data, and applications are assembled into scalable, secure, and reusable digital solutions. Working closely with Architects, Product teams, Platform teams, and Engineering leaders, you'll define solution patterns, integration strategies, and cloud engineering standards that support the delivery of modern digital products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for solution engineering, defining how enterprise platforms, data, and applications are combined into scalable, cohesive business solutions.
  • Establish and govern solution design patterns, integration frameworks, and reusable solution components aligned to enterprise architecture and engineering standards.
  • Lead the design and delivery of complex, multi-platform solutions, ensuring consistency across products, domains, and business capabilities.
  • Define and drive integration strategies, including API-led, event-driven, and data integration approaches, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, and cost-effective.
  • Champion cloud-native solution design and cloud engineering best practices, driving optimisation, automation, and alignment with enterprise governance.
  • Collaborate with Group Platform teams to embed reusable, well-governed platform capabilities and maximise the value of enterprise services.
  • Drive standardisation and reuse across platforms, applications, and data services, influencing product architectures and reducing technical complexity to support long-term sustainability.
  • Lead the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, while acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on engineering strategy, investment decisions, and digital innovation.

  • Proven ability to influence across multiple teams, products, and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience defining solution standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of DevOps, SRE, and modern product engineering approaches.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience with AI-driven solutions, orchestration, and automation technologies.
