We need everyone's positive energy and innovative thinking to lead the energy transition to net zero. That's why we welcome applications from all backgrounds and experiences and have a range of flexible working options to suit everyone! We are E.ON and we're leading the energy transition. Providing smart, sustainable and personalised solutions for customers at home, in business and across entire towns and cities. We make sure everything we do is focused on our customers, helping them with the major changes that are happening today and creating a new energy world that is decentralised, green, and interconnected. We are looking for a Quantitative Risk Intern to join our Energy Markets team in Solihull. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your Python and modelling skills in a real-world energy markets context, gaining hands-on exposure to one of the fastest-growing and most complex areas of risk in the UK energy sector.

Quantitative Risk Intern

Here's what you'll be doing

  • Migrate and modernise our CfD hedge model: Lead the transition of our Contracts for Difference (CfD) hedge position model from Excel to Python. Translate complex inputs into clear, actionable hedge instructions. This migration will streamline updates, reduce errors on complex positions, and enable integration with weather risk models, Clean Power 2030 risk evaluations, and CfD derivative valuations.
  • Understand and manage weather risk: Explore one of the largest and fastest-growing risks for energy retailers. Learn how weather and CfD derivatives are used to protect both our customers and the E.ON business.
  • Analyse CfD market dynamics: Support discussions on CfD, evaluating how scheme nuances, market changes (including negative prices), and Clean Power 2030 uncertainties affect customer bills and hedge effectiveness.
  • Enhance your technical skills: Build practical Python expertise while gaining a deeper understanding of energy markets and risk management.

What we need from you

  • Currently studying Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • Interest in mathematical modelling and experience with Python (Power BI is a plus).
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of projects.
  • Available to attend an interview in April 2026, if shortlisted
  • Available to undertake the internship from June 2026 to October 2026

Here’s what you need to know

  • Flexible working arrangements and hybrid options available.
  • Contract length adaptable to your studies (minimum 2 months) with flexible start and end dates.
  • Guidance and supervision will be provided as needed.
  • Opportunity to gain insights into a dynamic and evolving industry.
  • Salary: £25,007 pro rata
  • Award-Winning Workplace: Proud to be named a Sunday Times Best Place to Work 2025 and Best Place to Work for 16–34-year-olds.
