Senior Pricing Analyst

npower Business Solutions (nBS) is the E.ON UK Industrial and Commercial (I&C) pillar and a market leader in the B2B energy retail sector.  I&C is a £6 billion revenue business serving c60,000 customers and around 300,000 meter points with a view to becoming the number one B2B energy supplier in the UK.

You will be responsible for the pricing of complex fixed and flex export structured products, ensuring costs reflect current and forecast market conditions, while supporting volume and hedging risk mitigation via appropriate contract terms and conditions.

Being responsible for the development of new and existing pricing processes supporting a suite of complex electricity products, including those for power settlement, imbalance, embedded benefits, ROCs & REGOs along with any netting arrangements.  You will need to understand the product pipeline and use understanding of customer contracts and Route to Market agreements to influence the development of such products ensuring the terms are sufficiently robust to improve the risk profile and risk adjusted returns of the business.

You will require significant stakeholder management.  This will require detailed knowledge of the end-to-end commercial process.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • Responsible for timely, accurate pricing ensuring the application of accurate known and forecasted volumes, costs, and contract margin expectation.
  • Guide a team of Pricing Analysts and support the Pricing Manager in coordinating team outputs to meet Sales and Customer expectations, considering competing and often conflicting demands/viewpoints in determining and prioritising workload.
  • Responsible for executing the controls in place to manage pricing validation and for the sign off for all the pricing activity of our Pricing Analysts, ensuring DOA authorisation is adhered to.  
  • Test and develop new system that will be used for volume forecasting and pricing application to ensure that for all scenarios the system is for for purpose, ensuring accuracy for every scenario that would be encountered.
  • Propose and support processes and system developments through the Change Management (CM) process to enhance business productivity and performance.
  • Develop strong working relationships with Generation Services and C&S Client Leads, sharing an understanding of our pricing and forecasting techniques, working collaboratively to find the best pricing solution for current and prospective customers.
  • Support complex and challenging conversations with internal and external customers, including Client Leads, Service and energy sellers.
  • Manage, challenge, and interpret large, complex, often incomplete data sets from a multitude of sources within strict deadlines. This will need to be analysed and presented in a clear consistent and insightful manner.
  • Support the Pricing Manager in building a capability within the team to understand the complex commercial risks, product structures and process so that continuous improvement, improved efficiency and automation are considered BAU.
  • Guide the Pricing Manager in prioritisation of workflow and resource allocation of a team of Pricing Analysts ensuring pricing is concluded in accordance with the deadlines set out in SLAs, route to market agreements and customer contracts.
  • All pricing is subject to a minimum 4 eyes check with the role holder executing a personal DoA to complete final sign-off on pricing up to a contract volume of 100 GWh. Analysts within the team hold no DOA for final approvals but will conclude the provisional approval on all pricing concluded. The role holder will provide analyst feedback and training where errors have been identified.
  • Ability to make decisions with conflicting priorities with various senior stakeholders – strategic customers, Sales Managers and Client leads, Change and IT.

What we need from you

  • Proven exposure to dynamic, commercial environments with a track record of ongoing success.
  • Of graduate calibre with technical or vocational qualifications and experience to match the needs of the role. e.g. Mathematics, Business Studies, Finance etc.
  • An understanding of the UK Energy Market including wholesale, retail, renewables, distribution, conservation and generation market spaces.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex, multiple sources of data and insight to optimise financial performance, provide intelligent commentary and make strategic recommendations to inform critical business decisions. Detailed knowledge and understanding of gross margin and EBIT drivers.
  • Strong understanding of commercial, financial and generation services functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders with competing perspectives, needs and priorities in an increasingly time constrained environment with a passion for delivering financial value, customer and operational excellence.
  • In depth understanding of valuation and risk analysis methods and statistical analysis.
  • Have good IT skills MS Office suite (especially Excel), VB(A), statistical packages.
  • Demonstrate ability to transform theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world situations and be able to articulate complex issues in a concise and compelling fashion up to and at ELT/SLT level.    
  • Be results-oriented, able to meet tight deadlines and produce clear and concise feedback/reports to senior management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence senior individuals across teams / functions.
